Bound was my first work by Trish Heinrich, but definitely not my last.

Stella is a Mundane Human on the Supernatural division of the Seattle Police Department. Together with her partner, half Gargoyle Isaac, they are tasked to investigate a series of murders taking place at an "adult" club. Stella has a long history with this club, but a complicated piece of that comes in the form of James, her full Gargoyle ex boyfriend. These murders may be linked to a magical artifact he is after and the three of them are forced to team up to stop the murders.

+ Badass Woman in a Male Dominated Field
+ BDSM Dynamics
+ MMF Poly Relationship
+ Mysterious Magical Artifacts
+ Copycat Murders

Stella is tough, and she has to be to be taken seriously in her role, but I love the vulnerable side we see with her as the three of them come together. I'll admit, I didn't want James anywhere near her or Isaac the sweet cinnamon roll, but when their tension built and eventually exploded, my reservations about him were gone. All three of them bring something to the dynamic that is vital and I don't see how they would work without one of them. The way that their relationship evolved in the bedroom was a delight and incredibly hot.

The mystery and action were fantastic. I love that it was connected to Jack the Ripper. The scenes were incredibly graphic, so do mind that if you like your mysteries a little less intense. Trish does an amazing job with the world build and I am definitely looking forward to reading Feral now and seeing what little connections and easter eggs I might have missed reading this as a "standalone."

The dynamic between James and Stella was getting annoying and not moving forward quickly enough. I’d try to listen again.

Good but not my fave by author

I’m always a bit leery of romances starring a cop, which is probably silly. But Stella was a bit too emotionally stunted for my tastes. Sometimes it seemed like Isaac was the only reasonable partner.
The safe kink was a nice touch - with safe words and signs. Not my fave kink, but still done well. The plot had some predictable parts, and some serious issues were not as well addressed as I would have liked. However, there was a twist that I didn’t expect, which is always a plus.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: murder, torture, gore, abuse (off page), grief

I think I liked this book more than the 1st one. Only because of 1) I like the 3 characters and their relationships in and out of the bedroom. And 2) I felt like the mission of this book was higher stakes and had more mystery and action. I enjoyed seeing a MMC being the sub to both the other man and other woman. I feel like the majority of books I've read always have the female the most submissive (not that I mind) but never a male so that was a nice change-up. I've noticed with the first book and this one, the "missions" have been easy to guess the who and what, aside from one of the last twists in this book.
