I’ve always been fascinated by the treachery of double agent intelligence agent Harold “Kim” Philby, who defected to Moscow in 1963. Philby was a member of the famous spy ring known as The Cambridge Five that divulged British secrets during World War II and the early stages of the Cold War. Silva does an excellent job of weaving historical details with contemporary events. His novels never disappoint. I’ve read eighteen of them now and am eager to continue. The electric plots and vivid characters have me turning pages as though I were in a race to the finish, although I must admit I sometimes have trouble keeping the characters straight. I learn something new about the world’s political intricacies with each book in the series… be sure to read the author’s notes at the end. 4 stars.

Somewhat entertaining, but seemed like an author tired of writing the same story.
This is one of the better books in the series. Silva has written an old-school Cold War type espionage thriller. Silva brings plenty of action but unlike too many modern thrillers, the story does not rely on over-the-top action sequences. This novel is seems to pay homage to Le Carre and Ludlum.
As always a solid effort by Daniel Silva. I think he is the best at what he does. Topical, contemporary, and always a lesson to be learned in everything he writes. The main problem I had with the book is that, at least for me, it became a little muddled in parts where I couldn't quite follow what was going on. Probably my problem as opposed to Silva's. Do yourself a favor and read all of the exploits of Gabriel Allon from the beginning. I have a feeling Silva will become one of your favorite writers in the process.

It has been awhile since I read a book in this series, all of which I have enjoyed, and this one was really good. I had so much fun reading this book that I read it all in two days (easier for me, since I am retired!).
If you plan to read the Gabriel Allon series, I encourage you to start at the beginning and work your way through -- otherwise you will discover "spoilers" in the newer books which let you know things which happened in the older books.

This is #18 in a series that is one of my go-to reads every year. Gabriel Allon, the MC, is a compelling character & the author always surrounds his tales of espionage with real life current & historical events & people.
In this outing, intelligence services in several countries become involved in the hunt for a Russian mole. There are connections to the Cambridge Five & its most infamous member Kim Philby.
Silva’s books are smart, fast paced & topical & this is no exception. I’ve become so fond of the regular cast & enjoy catching up on their personal lives just as much as trying to figure out who-dun-it as they race around the world on their latest mission. You may have favourites among his books but as with authors like John Sandford or Michael Connelly, if you enjoy one you’ll enjoy them all. It’s an engrossing & very timely read.

Yet another great novel in this fantastic series spanning many many years. A small slow section in the middle telling the history of a great British spy, but it was eventually necessary and things picked up quite quickly to a very good ending.
