I don’t think this book knows what it is it felt like it was trying to be literary but didn’t really say or do anything worthwhile. I would have liked it better if it leaned into being a cringy rom com rather than trying to be both literary and romance

This was fine. I picked it up bc some bookstagrammers I follow really loved it, but it didn't grab me. It felt like a lot of telling but not much showing for character development. Pretty cover art tho!

I can already tell that Sadie is shallow and insufferable based on how she talks to her mentor and her friends. Maybe I'm just not in a rom-com mood, but I really need a believable, relatable FMC and not someone who treats people terribly and speaks mainly in millennial slang.

I was really enjoying this at first. I thought the setup was fun, the friendship group was great, and I liked the setting but the longer I read the more I disliked the main character Sadie. She was very conscious of being a selfish person when it came to the people around her but all of her friends were too selfless and basically told her they loved being used for free labor even when they had personal things going on.

The main male character Jack was essentially just a cardboard cutout of a man. Way too perfect and understanding yet broody with secrets that he eventually overcame through love. Oh and what WAS that 3rd act drama?! Sadie flipped a 180, completely lost all sense of empathy and understanding, and said the worst thing she could to Jack... and for what?!

Oh and my biggest annoyance was instead of this being a "go out and follow your dreams" type book it was a "if you have super wealthy people in your life you can drop all your responsibilities and go after your wildest dreams without any solid plan or financing" sort of book.

I'm probably being too harsh. It's cute but flawed.

3.5 stars!!! Super light and easy read. Loved her friend group and Jack!! The whole “girl boss, baddie” mantra from Sadie did get a little old but other than that…I enjoyed it!!
