Running Torte, a premier bakery in Ashland, Oregon, is a full-time job. Add in organizing a surprise midsummer- night themed wedding for her mother and step-dad-to-be that the entire town is invited to attend, major renovations to Torte, and the arrival of her cruise chef husband and meeting his preteen son, and you have the recipe for a nervous breakdown. Oh, don't forget her friend, Lance, and his family troubles that may turn deadly. Yet, in Jules Capshaw's latest adventure, you see she can handle it all with aplomb. Another excellent entry into this tasty series. It's tons of fun, readable and highly recommended.

Nice to get more of a glimpse into Lance and his family. Carlos makes an appearance with Ramiro. Glad Thomas is losing his infatuation with Jules and the new detective is getting a good showing. Interesting denouement though I wish the author would find a different motivation for their murderer. So it goes. Still sucked into the series.

*sigh* I'm not sure why I'm still reading mainstream cozies, when they make me so cranky. It was all I had brain capacity for, given the current state of the world, but my heart wasn't in it. I spent a lot of this book thinking that Ellie Alexander would rather be writing cookbooks or doing food writing. The mystery takes a backseat for the first half, leading to a rushed and unsatisfying resolution.

This was great! It's always a treat going back and visiting Torte. I loved seeing Juliet become more vulnerable in this book~ I feel like I know her and connect with her a bit better now. The mystery had me guessing the whole time and I loved hearing more of Lance's backstory! :)
