this book gave me second hand embarrassment SO many times.

this book was filled with emotional cheating, predictability, and hypocrisy. i also felt very detached from the characters, speaking of which:

Anna is a godawful main character. i understand that Anna’s alone in a brand new country but she gets SO upset over her parents aBaNdOniNg her in a boarding school in paris with a cafeteria that could pass for its own restaurant (her words not mine). she hopes to one day be the lead movie critic in america and then is genuinely surprised to find out paris has theatres. and apparently they don’t have paninis in atlanta.

Étienne / St. Clair is the typical “iM a NiCe gUy” douchebag. throughout the entire book Stephenie Perkins TRIES to make him out to be the perfect boyfriend, but then he cheated on his long term girlfriend. and i’d hate to break it to Anna, but once a cheater always a cheater.

the way Ellie and Amanda were portrayed in contrast to Anna was very purposefully making Ellie and Amanda seem like sluts. They were constantly described as wearing revealing clothing, most notably Ellie in her halloween costume. Meanwhile, Anna was described as wearing exclusively jeans and t-shirts and Stephanie Perkins made it a point to tell us she was a virgin.

tl;dr i enjoyed the writing style and the prose Perkins used and i would love to read more by her, but this book was NOT it

I loved this story. I found it funny, sweet, and cute. I'm surprised I loved it as much as I did considering I'm not one who's big into contemporary novels, but I ate this up.

I loved how it was set in Paris, it just added a whole new level to it. I loved how we got to see the relationships that Anna has grow and build from the beginning to end. I loved all the characters, wasn't a fan of Ellie even though we only meet her like 3 times. I did feel a little bad for Mer, but I'm happy shes OK with how everything turned out.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a nice change from what I usually read.

This is one cute and very adorable book. The only reason its not a perfect 5 stars is because I hate Anna.

Dette er helt klart min guilty-pleasure-bok. Superduper lettlest, med tredimensjonale karakterer og koselig plot. Ikke cliché unntatt når det er åpenbart meningen; gjort ironisk.

Fun, quick read. It's funny how accurate the author portrays the drama and exaggeration that teenagers are famous for.
