I finally finished it.

It took long because at some point I started to read other books and I was too lazy to finish this one. But altogether it was a nice book. I don't think I'm reading the second one but maybe I'll give it a shot in the future.

Lots of spice, kinda boring plot. I feel like the foundation of a plot is there but I just didn’t get into it. The female main character also just seemed flat, like she learns some unforgivable things but still just give in like within the hour. Oh, and ends in a cliffhanger for a second book that’s also 500 pages long. Might skim the next one but really not even sure that I want to.

Despite the fact that I figured out the betrayal stroyline and the one who would betray Artem pretty early on, it did not stop me from enjoying the story and the progress of Artem and Esme's relationship and the reveals about their pasts.

I wonder why Cesar killed Artem's first wife in a brutal way? Was it necessary? Was he truly evil or was he actually wearing his mask like Esme believes?

Onto book 2....

Okay, this book ate. I’m sorry, I know everyone hates a pregnancy trope, but it adds so much more tension to a book. Artem? Sort of rapey, but like it’s a mafia book… what do you want? There’s only two sec scenes that feel like that, but the other ones are EVERYTHING. Now Esme is cute. But like, her only personality trait is that she has a scarred past and that she scares easily. The plot of this book is a little messy, but it’s not too bad. I was fighting for my life in the trenches once they went to live on the mountain area, like that got SO boring. Overall, the smut was 8/10, plot was 6/10, characters were like a 5/10. Will I be reading the second book? Absolutely not, I’m not that invested.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I had anticipated this read to be a trashy romance novel filled with only sex, but it was more substantial than I expected. The writing style was good, which always helps!
