Slow, but captivating, character-driven novel in 1960's? Boston. Follows three male surgeons in and out of a run-down, but busy hospital. The female characters are a bit neurotic, but also well-drawn. I'm looking forward to reading more from this United States author, who seems to be better-known in Spanish-speaking countries for his translated works than for those written in his native language. A shame, really.

Stopped reading at page 45 after the sixth unnecessary and degrading comment about women's bodies including a child's. Which is sad, because the author wrote one of my all time favorite books (the physician).
