I'll stipulate that I read Faust in translation. The original German version would certainly be better. Even in English, there are parts of Part 1 that are sublime. Part 2 is a complete mess. The critical introduction by the translator of the edition I read was insightful. My 2 star rating is an average between the 3-star Part 1 and the 1-star Part 2. For those who can't understand German, I'd suggest checking out F.W. Murnau's silent film based on Faust.

В очередной раз убедился, что поэзия — не мое. Особенно произведения в стихах на 500 страниц. Еле дочитал.

Допускаю, что это я такой неграмотный, что не смог оценить всех тонких мотивов, отсылок к мифологиям.

Но формат все же настолько не мой, что я даже основной сюжет не всегда понимал.

К тому же герои мне показались слишком противоречивыми, хотя (если я правильно понял) такими они не задумывались Гете.

Гештальт закрыт. Фауста прочитал. Никому не рекомендую. Максимум можно краткое содержание прочитать.
