(I read the Atkins translation)
Brilliant but kind of crazy.
On the one hand, I love it and it's full of gemstone-caliber nuggets of wisdom, and it's highly literate and informed. On the other hand, I found certain aspects and portions of it to be tedious (esp. in Part 2) and did not think it really hung together as a complete work, despite the claims of the translator about its cohesiveness.
It's worth reading if only for the marvel of the acute mind that composed it... even if that mind composed it in a very unbalanced and haphazardly scattered way. Still, even this aspect of it is worthy and inspiring, to a certain extent. As a life's monumental work, it is very esteemable, if only for the scope of its conception and view of its composer it provides. In total, it is a virtuoso piece of writing, with a wealth of classical elements added to a tradition of Faust-lore that is second to none. Marlowe is still the man with the crown, but Goethe stands right next to him showing off his skills and insights in a glorious aria on a theme. Mic Drop: "HOMUNCULUS mounts DOLPHIN-PROTEUS"

Me encanto! Fausto y Mefistófeles me cayeron muy bien. La única queja que tengo es que se me fueron las cabras durante los saltos de partes. Lo volveré a leer en el futuro pues quiero captar bien que rayos paso durante cada una de las partes que componen el libro, y así comprender mejor el final.
Not sure how accurate the translation was that I read but still liked this.
Brilliant epic poem. I also listened to this on Audible. Would love to see the theatrical version as well.

Never read Faust in school so i decided why not read it now and i truely dont know how to rate this book.
Part 1 was mostly what i expected of the story, surprisingly more readable and also more fun than i thought it would be. But Part 2. Well what can i say abaut Part 2.
For one, im glad my cousin was visiting, cos i was able to share my bewilderment with someone. It was still kinda fun in a "what even is going on right now" way but i did have to skip some parts that were rather repetetive/uninteresting/didnt move the plot further. I did like the ending tho, so thats something
