Part 1: Amazing, chef's kiss
Part 2: The greek mythology threw me off, feel like the plot was very dragged out to the point where it got confusing, but he kinda saved it in the end. It could have been substantially shorter, and made more sense, like what was Poseidon doing here, hm?

had to read this motherfucker for an extension english course and it actually gave me trauma and made the last of my braincells disintegrate (half affectionate)

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this! Our library doesn't have any version of Part II, so it might be awhile before I read that.

Mostly incomprehensible, almost nonsensical. I don't really care that it's a classic, reading this was terrible.

Absolutely magnificent poetry arrayed to a story with operatic structure, depictions, and story. Book two is marred by some extremely long and mystifying digressions - an 18-page carnival and a lengthy sojourn in lands of Greek myth, that seem to have no bearing on the story or theme - and the predictable, sanctimonious ending (which may or may not be intended as satire; I'm unsure).
