Faust reads very much like the work of a man who wants to justify the bad actions of a man that he himself relates to. Goethe obviously finds himself very clever; the constant references to history and (mainly ancient Greek and Roman) mythology make it clear. There's large sections of the play that only deal with Greek and Roman heroes and gods, which Faust doesn't even appear in. Sure, there's some fun to be had spotting all the references, but mostly it's just a drag.

I am not really a huge fan of classics and we had to read it for school....
I was interested in this one because I'm trying to read more classics. I enjoyed it well enough but it was a little bit hard to follow in the audiobook format. I thought the storyline was interesting. It was really interesting how often it rhymed, because I kept comparing it to Shakespeare and how he didn't rhyme all that often.

Well, I said I like tragedies, but damn bro 💀 I picked this up as necessary background reading for the Master and Margarita and also Dostoevsky’s works. I recognize the importance, and the audio performance I picked up was fantastic. However, I probably won’t be returning to this.

A partir de la segunda parte se me ha hecho muy aburrido.
I have read this in the original german and I can say it is so damn difficult. What helped? I listed to the audiobook while reading along.
I only read the first part as it is the better one and many say that the second part is a no bother.
It got dark magic, love and orgies (i was surprised)
Mephistopheles i really enjoyed. He is witty and clever. While reading along with it i imagined it as a play. A true classic literature treasures.
Beware it is really difficult to understand and it’s layers underneath. I am still trying to wrap my head around it but i am glad i picked it up since it is the piece german literature is so famous for.
