So far, this is my favourite book in the series so far! After we were briefly introduced to Scarlett in the last book, she takes centre stage in this dark, creepy continuation of THE GATEKEEPERS series. The atmosphere was similar to the last three books, yet it has a decidedly more disturbing atmosphere that I found myself enjoying a lot.

Scarlett is a good character with unfortunately horrible luck, and it was great to follow her along as she realizes her destiny and connection to the Five. There was a little less action than in the previous books, but what action there was remained fast-paced and intense, especially with the cliffhanger ending that will change everything for our main characters. There was also a lot of development for the boys as tension and pressure grew within the group.

The story featured a great combination of character development, lore, and action. Yet it never felt like there was too much going on.

Speaking of the ending, it was absolutely insane. I did not see it coming and wonder how the heroes will be able to recover from such events. Regardless, the story is winding up to an explosive finale I can't wait to read!

I was a little disappointed. I first started reading the series a few years ago and, as the first half of the book was mostly uneventful, it was okay because it allowed me to locate things on the main story plot. I was hoping the second half would make up for the slow start... but it didn't! It was a little bit predictable and the action I was really looking for wasn't really there. I guess I read too much reviews about how great the book was, got my expectations high and in the end the book just didn't match what I actually wanted. I look forward to reading the next one, tho.

Finally managed to finish the book after about four months of deadlock (well, a PDF book is not really easy to read!) So far, the series has been somehow different from Horowitz's other books. I like almost all of his books, and this one made me more interested, with some newer ideas and more exciting adventures.
I'm so curious to know how it all ends in the last book.
