I hate that I hated it because I always want to praise Native American authors and their works but oh my god was this bad. I am truly shocked by all of the positive reviews. I am not a usual romance reader, and if this is the usual fare, I will happily take the title of book snob. It started out okay but got increasingly painful to read. Unfortunately, I was too far in it and am way behind on my reading goal.
The sex scenes in particular made me want to gag. “I was a Slip ‘n Slide down there.” “His touch seared my soul and had ruined me for all others”. Did a middle school write this?? Did AI??
Most of the decisions our protagonist makes are nonsensical and contrived. She is known to be a pathological liar but she doesn’t even do it well. If being a liar is one of your key personality traits, at least be good at it.
I want more Native American representation in literature, but I want it to be good. I wouldn’t even say this is good within the romance genre.

I skipped all the sex scenes (I had to read this for school), but it was well plotted, the characters had real problems and felt fleshed out, the descriptions I didn't skip were visceral and put you right there (I will never forgive this author for the descriptions of the Uber they took to go to the bar. That one will stick with me for a while). It was also funny, and as far as romances go, I didn't hate it. Maybe I like slow burn?
