It wasn’t bad but didn’t really like how the romance developed while she was isolated from the rest of the world.

Scarlett’s story is brutal, heartbreaking and incredible. Her life has been one hell after another. She found peace and healing and strength in a situation most would falter. She’s a badass. So strong, so beautiful, so determined and caring.
Luke - the sheriff - is protective, honest, loyal, kind and patient. He doesn’t push Scarlett to open up or share before she’s ready. He’s just present and encouraging.
Beautifully heartbreaking story.

i was going to give this a lower rating because, at first, it felt very similar to riven knight.
but as the conflict built, it became so good. after scarlett & cass were kidnapped, i was so obsessed with the suspense and tension.
and the PLOT TWIST at the barbecue!! oh my god!!!!!! desperate to read more of that in the next book - i already know leo & cass’s book will be my favourite.

DNF @ 40%. I just can’t get into this one. So much time has passed since the last book that I had to stop reading to pull up the previous book so I could remember exactly what happened to get Scarlett into the predicament she’s in. This one isn’t bad, it’s just that I can’t find it in me to be all that interested in what’s happening here. The fact that the heroine has only been out of the house once (when she escaped the safe house and went to the grocery store) probably plays a huge part as to why it’s boring me to death. There’s only so many times a person can move ALL of the furniture in a single house! I think I’ll wait until the entire series is complete, then read the entire series again from the beginning.
