I think that Rose would have benefited from a 2 volume addition. While trying to wrap things up at the end, it felt like it went a little fast. Some of the story beats could have been given more time to be more fleshed out.
That being said it was a joy to read about Lucius and Rose and Briar in their younger years. To see things take place that before this, you could only imagine. Fun and easy to read and that Jeff Smith charm once again shines through.
The art. The art of this one was not....my favorite. It did the job, but I was definitely missing the strokes of Smith himself doing it. I didn't really like how any of the characters looked. I especially didn't like how the poor doggo's looked. Now I can't draw for anything, so I don't want to come across too critical, but I really did not care for the art at all.

I was so excited to read this prequel after the Bone series but this was such a let down. I expected so much more.

This prequel to the Bone Series is unnecessary as all the information within is told, not as succinctly, in the 9 volume series. I found myself nodding along, knowing all the information that was being shared.

So this is the prequel to the Bone series I think? I haven't read any of the series but I saw this on the shelf at the library and thought it looked interesting. It was interesting but not to the point where I really feel like reading the rest of the series. The story seemed a little predictable but the main reason is that I wasn't a huge fan of the art style. When I read a graphic novel I need to like the art of it takes away from the experience for me. I also wasn't terribly fond of the characters.
Had been wanting to read this prequel since I was a kid. The art was a little strange and not as good as I remembered. But the story was classic and a fun way to get me back into the headspace. Looking forward to my re-read of the full series

I liked the story but really really hated the artwork (it's not illustrated by Jeff Smith like the main series and is a completely different art style which is hella ugly!)
