A woman finds out her sister has been lying to her about how powerful she is when the man she loves is enchanted into loving her. The whole family is named after flowers.

Fun, makes me wish I could draw.

My very first thought was, wow. The artstyle is so different and the detail is amazing. The artwork is beautiful, and the story in this prequel is suspenseful, face paced, and engaging!

IMPORTANT: This book takes place inbetween book 6 and 7 and gives more background into the events that take place in the past (like a flashback) and would give some big spoilers so I would recommend reading this after book 6!

I spotted an issue of Rose in the comic store when it was first published. I thought it looked interesting at the time, and the chap who worked in the store explained that it was part of a larger story called 'Bone', so I didn't end up buying at the time. It did put 'Bone' on my radar as something to read in the future. So, here I am, 11 years later and finally reading 'Bone'.

It's partly because of the above that I chose to read 'Rose' first, and partly because when looking up what order to read 'Bone' in that I saw Rose is billed as a prequel. So, started with Rose I did. And I liked it. It written so that it can stand by itself and be understood and it'll be interesting to see as I read Bone what I know having read this first.

It's also very, very, pretty; but what else would you expect from Charles Vess?!

This is my favorite in the Bone series. Rose is fast paced and suspenseful- perfect for young fantasy/action lovers. In this Prequel, Jeff Smith replaces all of the humor in the Bone series with pure action suspense, and it works! Furthermore, the reader finally learns more about the history between dragons and humans, as well as how the war began.
