I was afraid after all of the hype over this book, I would end up being incredibly disappointed. Luckily, that wasn't the case. Don was a wonderful, quirky narrator, and despite his own emotional distance that is forced upon the reader, his unique perspective was a refreshing way to experience the story. I also appreciated that, despite some of the immense changes he makes in his life throughout the course of the book, at the end he's still essentially the same person, only now has to hide a little less behind his quirks. Thoroughly enjoyable read, with some wonderful characters.
I wasn't convinced that I was going to like this book. I put it on my to read list only to remove it later. Then when it popped up in a group read, I decided to give it a try. All I can say is Don Tillman = Sheldon Cooper. The only way to explain my enjoyment of this book is to declare my love of all things "Big Bang Theory"
It was a fun read. Loved the dynamics between the two and the eventual conclusion to the father project. Fun times! Don reminds me of Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.

Wow, what a fun read. I just loved seeing the world through Don's eyes, but I especially loved seeing Rosie through his eyes. Such a quick read and really enjoyable.
Intelligently written, beautiful character development and self evaluation. Truly a wonderful love story!!
3.5 rounded up to 4.
Don Tillman is a neurodivergent individual. He has difficulty understanding social cues and as a result of bullying earlier in life, he has chosen to allow himself to be the butt of jokes. He is also a deeply loyal friend (although he has very few) and has a wealth of strengths he is only beginning to discover. He has recently decided to embark on the “Wife Project” to find a suitable partner. He is a scientist and approaches the project from a strictly logical viewpoint, creating a questionnaire which he is successful in getting many women to complete. Despite his best efforts, he has found zero compatible partners when he meets Rosie. Rosie fails his questionnaire miserably, but as Don learns love isn’t always rational.
The book was funny, sweet at times, and I found Don completely endearing. However, there were times I felt the author crossed the line in using his character’s differences for entertainment purposes at the expense of poking fun at individuals who may be different. I did some research and the author is not neurodivergent and based the character on individuals he had encountered in his life. I read blogs written by people who claimed to be autistic and some of their feedback on the book was a bit terse. I might be a bit sensitive having worked with many amazing students who think differently, but I would be curious to hear what others think.

Light, funny book, written from the point of view of a scientist deep in the spectrum looking for a wife.
The main character seems more like a stranded alien with superpowers than a real human. Rosie is really undeveloped.
