It was cute! But I still dont really know why the characters liked eachother. The end was a bit of a mess.
Really enjoyed the first 80% of this book but the last 20% let it down.
This was just a wonderfully entertaining book. I can't say if the portrayal of Don as a high functioning person with Asperger's is completely accurate in terms of his inner thought processes and ability to make changes and accommodations, in fact I have some questions, but I don't care at all. This is a great comedy, but infused with pathos (compassion, not pity). And God bless happy endings.
medium-paced
i had the time of my life reading this and in FACT would have read it in one spectacular sitting had i not gotten a headache from my current lack of glasses. i digress! there's so much heart, humor, earnestness, and love packed in here. it feels so good to be excited about a joyful book like this!!!
An overall feel good book. The story was good, easy to follow and easy to read. A decent amount of humour with a little bit of love sprinkled it. Excited to read the other books in the series and would definitely read it again.
I am late to the party for this book - I had wanted to read it when it came out years ago but it just never made it far enough up the list. I am glad I finally read it - even though it is now a little dated and seems to cover ground that has been very thoroughly explored via television. It was still heartwarming and funny and a satisfying read, but I don't think I'll be reading the sequels.
There was a lot of this book where I identified with the narrator or at least had empathy for how he was feeling. But, overall, I found this just as ridiculous, far-fetched, and unpleasantly unrealistic as most of the rom-coms the author mentions at the end. The idea that this man's mental health issues could be overcome because he just decides to be more normal, that he decides to change his entire personality for the first woman he spends any time with, the implication that he could be "cured" or "made happier" by a woman and a week in New York - honestly, I found it rather offensive. The writing is well done, but using this man's condition and struggles as comic relief and then as a rom-com trope... distasteful. I actually was enjoying it, listening to him explore his inner life and feelings, until the end when all the rom-com stereotypes started showing up, which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one.
