Great mystery read. The 1930s is an awesome time to be telling tales in. I love the levels of magic in this book. The fantasy is so neatly tied up into the reality of life. This was a great book to pull me out of a book slump as it was different in so many ways and yet very expected as well.

Really enjoyed the twist on alternate 1933. This had a good plot where I only questioned the characters a few times. Will read the next in the series

Really fun book! Definitely has a noir feel in Depression Era NYC. There are a few "dolls" (said to women) thrown in to make it realistic, but there is also the fantasy elements like magic, runes, sorcerers. As far as I know there are no other supernatural creatures, but this is the first book. There are Crawlers, which are like a magical bus system, flying castles, etc. It's a cool world unlike anything I've read. Alex Lockerby's friend and father figure is killed by a magical plague and Alex has just a few days to find out why. I don't know that I will read more, but it's only because I have so many more series I want to read and so many I want to reread.

Good book. Interesting magic system, wanting to look more into it.

A nice mash up of noir detective story and urban fantasy. Set in an alternate 1930s New York City. I think I'll read the next book in the series eventually.
