I liked it, but I had expected a bit more of an ending.

A cool piece of the Enclave puzzle. It's worth the time it takes to read.

Endurance 1.5 was short. Which was fine. It was good. My only problem was that it only covered from where Thimble and Stone and boy23 (Stone's son or "brat" as they are called in the enclave) left the College enclave. It actually starts a little before then. There was a rebellion within the enclaves walls. Then the "Freaks" invade the weakened enclave. They leave. Stone thwarts a few Freak attacks by fighting them under Thimble's guidance. Then, they find some sort of bunker where they decide to stay. It keeps them safe from the Freaks and has food, books and other useful things. It could have covered them going "Topside" and then getting to the island where they reunite with Deuce. All in all I am glad to learn what happened to the people in the College enclave after Deuce left. The romance between Thimble and Stone was sweet too.

The elders would have said he was too dumb to survive such a catastrophe, and she too weak, but they'd proven them wrong. Together, they were whole. Together, they had a chance.

I'm kind of bummed to know this. I'm actually sad I read this.
sometimes, for me, ignorance really is bliss...I had kind of liked not knowing

but I guess this opens new possibilities in book 2.

I'm not sure we learn much from this short story. They got out, but then what? Is there more in a future book?

SpoilerETA: Yes, there is!

In any case, Happy Reading!

Endurance by Ann Aguirre is novella taking place between the first and second installments of the Razorland series.

The story picks up from the middle of the first but this time it’s told from a different point of view. Ever wonder what happened to Thimble and Stone? Well, here’s your chance to find out. This is a story of rebellion, collapse, love and survival. Warning: Spoilers!

Spoiler I adore this series. I figured I should get that out there. This add-on wasn’t as great as I hoped though.

Catch Up: College Enclave. Home to a colony in the underground of NY containing 3 classes of citizens; Breeders, Builders, and Hunters. When the story begins, it’s not long after Deuce and Fade (the leads from the first title, Enclave) have been banished.

Cue in Thimble and Stone, Deuce’s “bratmates“. Continuing life in Enclave as they keep their mouths shut concerning Deuce’s punishment, fearing their own lives as consequence.

The author decided to run the narrative through both POVs which was a pleasant surprise for me. I really enjoy when books do this. Unfortunately in this case, it happened too often and too fast, so it became a little difficult to keep up with.

Watching Thimble and Stone fight the odds to survive through the rebel uprising, Freak attack, and traveling through the tunnels was very uplifting. You knew from the first book how close the two were so it came naturally.

Explanations felt forced. A supplement story like this one shouldn’t need abundant reiterations of the origins. Every time their classes were mentioned, they had to be explained. Almost as if the reader needed reminded on every page that their love was forbidden. Even for those who didn’t read the first book and picked this up on a whim, after the first 3 times I’m sure it’s clicked.

(´~`)

Overall I enjoyed this small adventure. This surrounding environment remained consistent with the first book which was nice. Every now and then I see series that contradict their own writing. A little too much repetition but still a good read. Especially if you’re into the series as a whole.

could have been a fulfledged novel, and I would have liked that. Unfortunately the author did just a short story.

This was cute.

While I usually don't read novellas, I was intrigued about how the enclave fell, and I wanted to know what happened with Stone and Thimble.

I really do hope that they meet up with Deuce and Fade eventually so that they know that they are okay.

Pretty good read.

Endurance takes place between the first and second Razorland books. After Deuce and Fade left the Enclave there was an uprising, they few people who survived were attacked by the freaks. Stone & Thimble (Deuce's bratmates) were able to get away with boy23.

***Spoilers***
Even though it isn't permitted for breeders to know which of the brat's are their own offspring, Stone always knew boy 23 was his. Once they make it safely into the tunnels, Stone has to fight off some of the freaks. Breeders are not permitted to think, only to breed. Thimble is handicapped, one of her feet turns inward, and because of this she has always had to work twice as hard to save herself. Each of them now must use their skills, and learn new skills to make it to safety. They find a hidden bunker with food, and many other treasures. The book ends with them deciding to stay there awhile, since it provides them safety from the freaks. Thimble wants to read the books to see if she can discover how to move forward. I really hope they somehow connect with Deuce and Fade in book 3!
