I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Loved Tor but Christina was a bit annoying - I prefer strong heroines in romance stories. The plot was also quite predictable, but still enjoyed it enough to read the next one in the series.
I just got the book. Brand new series taking place around the time of Robert the Bruce.

Very much enjoyed this novel. Although I sometimes felt annoyed with the heroine, Christina's cleverness, kindness, compassion, earnestness and general good nature made up for those times and helped keep the story interesting and my attention engaged. I found the Highland Guard to be an very interesting part of the story; and Tor is such a perfect blend of stubborn laird and considerate, unorthodox highlander, as to make a very appealing hero. Well written, interesting, a very good highland romance.

Look, the main characters both start out ok. Tor is really gruff but trying and Christina clearly has a good head on her shoulders. But then they both kind of fall apart. Tor gets straight up mean (hello you have a wife who wants to help you and can read and write in medieval times, don’t just tell her to sew curtains) and Christina just… cries all the time. It’s rough. They both pull through in the end but damn made my blood pressure rise I was so annoyed.
