As I have already read the Chestnut Spring series, I wanted to go back to where it all began, the Gold Rush Ranch series.

Vaughn and Billie were a delight to read about. The banter and sassiness from Billie was refreshing and reminds me of Willa in Heartless (another book from Elsie Silver). I love the character development in this book as well as all the side characters in the story. Having read most of the books written by Elsie Silver, I am impressed with the different approaches she takes for each story.

Tropes:
-boss/employee
-forced proximity
-grumpy x sunshine
-1.5🌶️

As Elsie Silver has obviously been improving as she writes more books I’m giving this book a 3.5. That being said, if you love her books and want to read more into the cowboy world she has created, it is worth reading and I am happy that I did. I just personally prefer the Chestnut Spring series.

This book wasn't my absolute favorite by Elsie, but I think that this series will still be fun to read through. Vaughn was just not my favorite mmc, and Billie was cool (but she felt off in the 2nd half of the book, like a different person).

I think the 3rd act breakup was just... annoying I guess. I think if the book was longer, there would've been more time to realistically build the characters' relationship up. I just didn't feel like we had enough scenes of them together (especially any with a lot of tension) to believe their relationship was real. Like, yeah, they had sex, they argued, blah blah blah; but, I didn't feel like they actually had any reason to like each other more than they would a different random person?

I think reading Chestnut Springs before this series wasn't a great idea, but regardless I did have fun reading the book and will continue on with the series. (I'm interested to see Stefan's character arc and redemption!!)

I really like horses, so this was fun. Definitely enjoyed the romance and the groveling etc.

This >>>> Chestnut springs. Billie was such a bad ass and I liked every waking moment I got to spend with her. 😊

After reading the Chestnut Springs series and absolutely LOVING it, I knew I’d come back and read this series too, and I’m so glad I did! Elsie Silver’s characters are so real and relatable. The connection between them (weather main character or supporting), the found family vibes, the banter, the off the charts chemistry: it’s all FANTASTIC. But the real winner for me was the way she wrote about the horses. As an actual horse person I’m extremely wary about books with plots that revolve around them because authors almost always get it wrong. So, so wrong. Miss Silver absolutely gets it RIGHT and I cannot wait to read the rest of the books in this series!
