fast-paced

The Quiet Tenant is probably my favorite thriller of the year. One of those “just one more chapter…” type of books.

The “tenant,” Rachel, is not a tenant at all, but actually a kidnapping victim of her serial killer captor, Aidan. He has kept her locked in a shed for five years waiting on the perfect time to kill her. After his wife dies, Aidan and his daughter Cecelia have to move and he decides to bring Rachel with him. She is forced to hide in plain sight living in their house and interacting with his daughter, all while trying to figure out how to escape.

This plot line was so unique and it kept me on the edge of my seat. It is told from multiple perspectives, Rachel, Cecilia, and Emily, who is a potential new love interest of Aidan. Definitely give this a try if you’re in to fast-paced and hard-to-put-down thrillers!

This is the most unique thriller I’ve ever read and it’s hard to believe this is a debut novel because it’s SO well written. I’ve seen a few people complain about the use of second person point of view, but I personally loved that. It made me feel like I was Rachel and living through the horrors she faced. The writing gave me chills and had my heart beating so fast at times because of how well written some of the scenes are. I like that we followed this serial killer from the perspectives of three different women in his life. The pacing was perfect for me and I didn’t want to put it down because I just HAD to know what happened next (going back to work after my lunch break was a struggle when I read this at work). HIGHLY recommend this one!!

An overwritten, mind-numbingly boring “thriller” that contained absolutely no thrill or suspense. The plot was nonexistent, the character’s choices were completely nonsensical, and the girlfriend character added absolutely nothing to the story other than to cater to cringey romance novel fans. No explanation was given to the killer’s motives or why he became a killer. The victim had zero sense of self-preservation, passed up multiple chances to save herself, and then her final plan made absolutely no sense whatsoever. The daughter was underdeveloped and served no purpose in the story. But the worst part about this book was how incredibly dull and repetitive the whole thing was. Boo.

It was a touch read. Because the topic is so raw. The thriller itself was good.
