A pleasant enough, undemanding read ideal for this time of year. A bit silly and wrapped up rather quickly with some plot holes towards the end.
Seven friends, who have known each other for a decade, get together for a Holiday, at a secluded lodge in the Scottish Highlands. By the end of their trip, one of them ends up dead…
This story has such unlikable, bratty, self absorbed characters, which heightened the suspense! I would’ve loved to be a fly on the wall during this getaway, because, the way this group of “friends” interacts with each other, you often wonder why they stay friends. Snarky comments and low-blows were coming from everyone, every which way. Hard to choose a favorite and stick with it!
“That’s the thing about old friends. Sometimes they don’t even realize that they don’t have anything in common. Maybe they don’t even like each other anymore.”
The twist at the end was great! I didn’t see it coming. I was genuinely shocked!
Also, the jumping timelines were done very well!
I typically don’t gravitate toward suspense novels, but, I really enjoyed this! I’ll most likely pick up another one of Lucy Foley’s books!!

An affair. A baby. Insider trading. Coworkers to so much more. And a murder! This book had everything. Wish I had finished it sooner!

The Hunting Party captured my attention from the first two chapters — the cast of characters is a group of old friends, each with their own demons and histories. The “inner circle” (as they call themselves) books a remote lodge in the Scottish highlands to spend New Year’s…and, you guessed it, a body is discovered 😱
Each of the five narrators felt fully formed. Their struggles (although dark!) felt real and plausible.
I really enjoyed that Foley didn’t reveal who died or the perpetrator for the majority of the book. This was just as much of a whodunnit as it is a “who IS it?!?”
The dual timeline (one is 3 days earlier, one is “now”) made for a suspenseful plot, but the “now” timeline moved a lot slower up until the end, and I was wanting to just get back to 3 days earlier.
Overall, I definitely enjoyed this one and I’m back on the Lucy Foley train after having not loved The Paris Apartment!

I almost didn’t finish this book but somehow I did. All the characters sucked. Too many POV’s. There were so many red herrings it felt like a new one every chapter. It was just a big mess and I didn’t care about any of them.
