One of the best Wolverine stories I've read in a long time; one of the things holding the character back was retconned baggage, and with Logan dead and Old Man Logan wandering the 616, we have Laura, or X-23, in the top spot, and the story's better for it. Her origins are complicated and she's brutal and has Logan's powerset, but it's like Wolverine back in X-Men 132, and not what had become of the character before his recent demise. She's fast, strong, violent and the story's fantastic with a lot of great cameos and side characters. Loved this.
I loved this! I'm not a big Marvel reader and my X-Men knowledge mostly comes from the movies, so I went in with almost zero background knowledge. I didn't feel like I'd missed a thing - or I didn't until the reveal at the end of the last issue, idk who the lady is. Laura is really fun, I enjoyed the fight scenes, and her little speech to Dr. Strange about identity got me a little teary eyed. Definitely a good choice to start with a story that is essentially about freedom and bodily autonomy.
Excellent comic read! I loved every second!
I picked this up originally because a) I'm a Doctor Strange nut, and he's in this comic, and b) I only now X23 from the film Logan, and I wanted to see more of her comic counterpart. I was not disappointed in any way!
I loved seeing Laura fight between what she was trained to be and who she wants to be, to see how she dealt with her clones, and how taking on the mantle of Wolverine affects her. Seeing her with Doctor Strange was beautiful as well, I loved the scene where he tells her how proud Logan would have been of her.
The other cameos were amazing as well, I loved how it all weaved in together, and now that the Disney/Fox deal has gone through, I would LOVE for this to be a storyline Marvel explores!
All in all, an incredibly enjoyable read, a great insight into Laura, will definitely be on the look out for the second volume!
