This captures perfectly what a 3 star book is. Though not as bad as it is made out to be, this is however a very generic fantasy story.

It's a big rip-off of the Lord of the Rings.

When my brother and I were young he loved Terry Brooks and the Shannara books. He tried to get me to read them several times, but I was never interested. Unfortunately, my brother passed away a few years ago. When I found this book at a used book store, I grabbed it…perhaps in hopes of connecting with him in some way.
I have to be honest, the beginning of this book was slow. I was starting to feel bad because I wasn’t enjoying it. My husband reminded me several times that my brother was 13 when he enjoyed these books.
Just as I was starting to consider not finishing it, it picked up. The second half of the book is pretty good and it finishes strong.
I will definitely read more of the Shannara series.

Pretty predictable. Kind of a cop-out ending, but I enjoyed the characters.
