A wonderful idea, but constructed poorly. The main characters are all boring and made me want to fall asleep. Waste of time.

I read this book before work for a few days and despite wanting to know more I then didn’t pick it back up until today (over a month later!) and I am so annoyed at myself because this book was just incredible. Learning more of Anna and her condition alongside the eventual heartbreaking reveal of the causes had me on the edge of my seat, wanting so badly to give this poor young girl the biggest of hugs because she deserves so much better than the hand she has been given and I adore Lib for refusing to back down through the entire book, determined to do her best for this young girl.

Just could not get into it, even halfway through. Maybe I will give it another shot one day.

Not quite crap, but so undeserving of the multiple 5 star reviews. Donaghue took on too much for one book, and she did each poorly. The treatment of the Irish by the English, the patriarchy, the Catholic Church, and things I shouldn't say because they'd be spoilers. Towards the book's end, I felt like I was reading the script for a crappy LifeTime movie, and not the fun Christmas ones. Just ugh.

I had a hard time rating this book as the main character, Lib, was so oblivious for mostof the story and hard to relate to or like. She, however, was not the only character to frustrate me and cause me to talk back to while I listened to the talking book version of the book.

I'm also unsure of the ending. It was the ending you wanted but was it really the right one? Could Anna really have survived after doing that much damage to herself and being so close to death?

et bah je regrette de pas l’avoir lu + tôt prcq même si il est très lent la fin valait le coup
