DID NOT FINISH: 22%

After reading the first book, The Wallflower, I wasn't so sure I would continue reading this series. Then it ended the way it did and though it gave me the ick I thought I would give the second book a chance to redeem itself.
Unfortunately, it hasn't and I couldn't continue further than 22%. The taboo trope continues with no explanation and more is revealed about Drew but he still is as toxic as ever. What makes it worse is Bel has become unlikeable. I know she is dealing with a lot but her character has become tiring to read about and I feel no connection to her. I'm not even rooting for her because she keeps falling for the same things as she did in the first book even though Drew hurt her so badly.
It's possible that things will get better but I can't continue with these characters, the unexplained secrets and the toxic relationships between them all.

Book two was as good as book one!  This story picks up where book one left off. If you have not read book one it is essential to understanding and enjoying book two.

I’m too afraid to write a synopsis because I might give away a secret.  This book answers 98% of your questions from book one.

The ending of book 1 left me ON EDGE, and this book gave me the closure I needed with Drew and Bel😭

Drew and Bel were in so much turmoil during this book, but they both literally fought to get the love they deserved with the people in their lives and with themselves. The amount of times I got scared during this book was unreal, but J. L. knew exactly what we needed to reel it all in🫠🫠

Bel has been through so much, that poor girl😫
But during this book she grew so much and I was so proud of the woman she became!! I was literally hyping her up through the screen of my kindle😂
She deserved to step into this new world with Sebastian, and I’m so happy she has that care in her life from the events that happened in book 1.

I am so freaking proud of Drew!! He found a way to get his girl in the end, even if it meant making some really tough decisions in his life. He was steadfast and was determined to not lose his Mabel, and that made my heart so happy🥹

THE SPICE, lord ohhh to be Maybel😂😂

Also Seb & Elyse HELLOOOO??👀
I saw the little sprinkles J. L. put in for their story and I’m so excited for The Prey!!

J. L., thank you for this amazing story!🖤

I LOVED the wallflower, but this book fell extremely short for me. You could’ve taken 150-200 pages out and wouldn’t have missed much. There seemed to be a lot of filler and also a lot of repetitive phrases/scenarios. Bel wants Drew to work for her and win her back and he just shows up and says “you’re mine there will always be an us” and she gives in til he leaves and then acts like she’s going to play hard to get. The characters are 20/21? And acted like they were still in high school. Also why did Drew go to a fight club and then it’s never spoken about again? And his dad cuts his face/head but Bel doesn’t mention it when she sees him the next day? Idk, not my favorite.

This is a sequel to a Duet.  The first book is called The Wall Flower and Ddaamm what a sequel for Drew and Bel!  Don’t forget you HAVE TO READ BOOK 1 first!  The cliffhanger from book 1 was epic! And glad the wait wasn’t too long for me to get book 2!

A lot of stuff happens and I don’t want to spoil anything! 😅 so just go read it! I will say there is a lot of steam, a lot of grovelling, open violence and well did i forget to mention this a a dark bully romance?
