This book has got AMBIANCE! It was a little challenging reading this in Arizona during the summer. I had to wait until night to read, blazing summer days just don't have the right vibe for this books chilly frozen landscape. That said there were plenty of chills to be had even in the summer heat. I love that the Fairies in this book are molded on the ACTUAL folktales. The fae here are unsettling and inhuman, they have a sense of "otherness" beyond human comprehension. And then you have Bambleby, who is as close to a golden retriever as a fae can be. His attachment to Emily is hilarious, and their interactions are a joy to read. Emily herself is a bit of a strange and unsettling lady. Honestly, she seems more at home amongst the Folks than amongst her own kind often times.
