Neat concept of curses instead of gifts. But the flirting starts off way too strong way too quick.
3*
Unfortunatly this was not my cup of tea.
The book got good elements :
- spice
- Broody MMC
- good side caracters
- beautiful cover
But that was it for me , I just could not like the FMC . She was so clueless , following along way too easy.
Your Brother is kidnap ; Say she is panicking and dying inside but doesn't really do it.
Fall in love with the MMC even if they don't talk a lots .
I think the book have such great elements, but IT was not showed in a way for me to get hooked. The world building was confusing and A Little lacking . It's not a bad book but I don't think it's my style of book.

Ok - I really liked this book, but I have A LOT of questions. I'll give my thoughts first, but if you don't want spoilers, I advise you to not read my questions at the end...
MY RAMBLINGS (spoiler free):
First of all, I enjoyed the audiobook. It's a duet, but you don't get much of Connor Brannigan's voice until about halfway through the book. Both Connor and Nikki did a great job and were easy on the ears.
I'm fully invested in the characters at this point. I'm a sucker for good banter and sassy MCs, and Between Life and Death doesn't disappoint. Sage is your typical sheltered young woman who has some hidden powers and unknowingly needs to save the world. Ezra is the elderly, sassy guardian that has lots of secrets.
And Von is... Well, I can't tell if he's actually a shadow daddy or just plain sexy, but I like him. He's definitely mysterious, morally gray, and keeps disappearing throughout the book to who knows where. Maybe it's setting up for a novella with Von's perspective?
Arkin (spelling may be off) is a conundrum. I'm still wondering if he's good or bad, and I'm hoping we learn more of his past in book 2.
Read this if you love:
Banter
Morally grey characters
Elemental powers
Old gods/new gods lore
Sexual tension
Moderate spice
Rock collecting
Talking animals
QUESTIONS: DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU WANT SPOILERS!!

Who is the Goddess of Fate?
Does Von's sister know he's the God of Death? Does she drink blood? Is she immortal too? What's her deal?
Is Arkin immortal (since he claims him and Aurelia were friends long ago)?
Does Ezra know who Sage really is?
What's up with the rocks/boulders that Ezra is obsessed with?
Who is in the black mist that keeps talking to Sage when she approaches, but won't let her in?
Crossing my fingers we get answers in book 2!!!

Wow, I loved this story! The obsessive, possessive male main character (MMC) really made it memorable. There's something irresistible about a character willing to give his life and burn the world for his love. Initially, I found myself struggling to get into the book; it felt a bit slow and I wasn't sure where the story was headed. However, once it picked up, I was completely hooked. The spice level is around 🌶️🌶️—not overly spicy, but definitely present. There were also a few tear-jerking moments that added depth to the narrative. My only hesitation in giving this a full five stars was due to the female lead. At times, she was frustratingly smart yet oblivious, which left me wondering how she could figure out complex problems but was clueless about her own bargain. This inconsistency slightly detracted from my overall enjoyment. It's also worth noting that this book ends on a cliffhanger, so be prepared for that! Lastly, the narrators did a fantastic job bringing the story to life. This was my first experience with their work, and it certainly won't be my last. Overall, a gripping tale that kept me engaged, with a few quirks that made it all the more interesting! Also this is a duet narration.
