This book is so satisfying on all fronts for me. Elemental magic. Brutal King that banned magic. Morally DARK Gray MMC named Von and a stabby FMC named Sage. The twists were great!! And the ending had me holding my breath! And then crying! The negative reviews I’ve seen are from people who didn’t finish the book. This book truly comes down to the last few chapters. You HAVE to finish it for it to make sense. Von can come across too bold at times (for some, not all) but I promise it will all come together. Please finish it before you give it a poor review. It’s got me in a chokehold! I can’t wait to finish book two! So far this has helped to scratch that ACOTAR itch.

Some of the descriptions will take me out of the story and feels like some of them are very very detailed and not necessary to the furthering of the plot. It also felt very slow in spots, especially because for most of the book shes trying to find her brother.
Some of the dialogue and back and forth was annoying and there was lots of modern phrases that kind of take you out of the story. Hoping the second book will be better

I quite literally couldn’t put this book down! I was 10% in and I already knew that I would in love with the world, the characters, Sage, VON
Writing is pretty bad, it’s an insta love, but I was willing to look past all this. Then not only did the ending get spoiled for me in TikTok but I found out in the next book that something non consensual happens with the main love interest so…. I’m just going to call it quits…
This book has been on my TBR for a while now, and I'm so glad that I finally took the time to read it! It is a bit on the lengthy side, but I feel like that was necessary because there is a lot of ground to cover. Sage is one of the Cursed, those who possess magic, but she's been raised in a small, quiet town. The only thing she really understands about the Cursed is that the king hates them, and sends his soldiers regularly to brutally kill them. Her whole life she has hidden her powers. When the king's soldiers force her brother into their army, she is set on a life changing journey. Von is our MMC, and I absolutely love him! You can tell these two are fated to be together, and you get the gist that there is way more to Von than what meets the eye. These two immediately have an insta-lust attraction to each other, but it confuses Sage. It's obvious that they have a past history that Sage doesn't remember. My heart hurt for Von at times because he desperately wanted her to remember him, but he wanted to give her time to regain her memories. Their chemistry was insane, largely due to Von and his mouth! The ending though...bring on book2!
