It’s good. It’s a little rushed for my taste, I like to be immersed in the world more than this let me be. The revelations are predictable. The spicy scenes are good so far, mostly because of the buildup from the the dark, mysterious man’s over confidence. It’s a good story and could be done very well in audiobook version if that’s something the author wants to do.

I would give it a 3.5 if I could. The main characters’ relationship seemed rushed, particularly on Sage’s side. I can understand Von’s off the bat intensity as he remembers all of their previous memories and has been watching her throughout this life.
The middle got a bit slow, but it was interesting enough for me to continue reading it. Sage’s constant inability to connect the feathers to Von when it’s so obvious is incredibly frustrating. The side characters are what helped me get through the middle, as I cared enough about Kaleb to want to find him and wanted to know more about Ezra.
The end felt rushed due to the reader’s limited knowledge that comes with Sage’s perspective. I wish there would have been a chapter from Von’s POV towards the end, so we could have at least seen his final deal be made. The ending indicates that there will be a sequel and I would be interested in reading it when it comes out.

Has potential. An easy read, but I struggled to finish it.
I’m still not sure what time period this is based off of.
Lack of world building and character descriptions.
I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it.

Between Life and Death is one of my new favorite books. It captivated me from the first page. I truly couldn’t put the book down. Jaclyn Kot is a fantastic writer; I couldn’t help but feel like I was submerged in her amazing fantasy world. I can’t wait for book two!
