I DO judge mental health professionals who want to fit all-living (and non-existing too) female populations into a single mold, and who recommend the same tarot/horoscope-like "remedies" for everything.

Heads-up:
• El libro es MUY espiritual. ¿No crees en ello o no funciona para ti? No encontrarás un balance en tu vida porque necesitas de la espiritualidad para estar completa.
• ¿Eres una persona asexual? Wrong! La parte sexual es NECESARIA para cualquier mujer funcional. En este libro ni siquiera se da la apertura a pensar lo contrario.
• ¿Viviste alguna situación de violencia? Probablemente es tu culpa por no trabajar en tu instinto femenino. Porque OBVIAMENTE, todas las mujeres tenemos un sexto sentido lobezno que nos debería de hacer detectar peligro (si tan sólo conectaras con tus raíces)...
PERO NO TEMAIS. Si has vivido un evento traumático o alguna clase de evento tortuoso, ¡felicidades! Aunque la autora no te lo desearía, gracias a eso ahora tienes las herramientas para superar cualquier adversidad que se atraviese en tu camino (así por default, sin apoyo). Sólo tienes que aprender a perdonar.

Sooo many words to not really say a lot of things. This book was definitely not written for me. First of all, I think it’s remarkably tedious to read. It’s full of enumerations, repetitions and random Spanish or German words (which are then translated - every single time, even after the 500th instance) that do not enforce, but cloud the message the author wants to convey. Second, I was very annoyed that most “messages” were covered in more metaphors than her stories. It felt like reading a horoscope - everyone can interpret her interpretations in a way that fits them. Also, her insistence on women being “creative creatures” that love to paint, sculpt and write (her favourite examples) felt sexist to me. I know a lot if women who would not identify as “the creative type”, and they have not “lost touch” with their psyche - they just do not fit in that tiny, neat little box this book provides.

I just couldn’t get into it. It felt too woo woo for me
I guess I can sum it up by saying I expected both more and less—more info and less ego at the very least. I feel like the valuable parts were lost in the sea of self-congratulatory purple prose. Look, I'm actually a fan of Jung insofar as he describes the creation of our perception(s). BUT - and this is big - I feel like a lot of people who really embrace him come off as pretentious at best, and I don't think Estés is at the "best" level. I might have gone into the book more prepared if I'd known how heavily the author would focus on her own experiences and opinions, as filtered through a Jungian understanding of the world, and her sometimes rather narrow definitions of femininity and womanhood. Unfortunately, I was misled by the cover, the blurb, marketing, and recommendations into thinking this was a book about archetypes in folklore, fairy tales, and mythology. I still want to read that book. Instead, I feel like I got a decent dissertation from someone who dualed in philosophy and gender studies.
I might have liked the written book but I found the audiobook obnoxious. Her way of speaking reminded me of evangelical people from my childhood and I had to stop listening occasionally. I also agree with all the reviews that say it’s outdated and very heteronormative.
For the first 150 pages I was hooked. Enthralled. It was like someone had climbed into my brain.
But the next 150 pages were a lot of the same - there were areas where the text kind of went on for a long time. Like when you're reading older novels and you can tell that they were published in newspapers by chapter at a time - sometimes it takes eras to get to the point.
The book is great, but as a woman it still speaks to a specific audience of women, if that makes sense. It was applicable to me in a lot of aspects, but if I gave it to my sister who is is very left-brained I feel like she wouldn't appreciate or resonate as deeply with I did.
