Concise, crystalline, bracing, lovely.

I suspect this might be something I come back to many years later and love, but for now I enjoyed it. Went in not knowing anything about Zen Buddhism, but appreciated the imagery and thoughts on life. A reminder of how much of the human experience is universal, and how timeless writing about it can be. Enjoyed the structure and the way that the poetry was woven together with the life story.

Again, excellent. Its Introduction is informative and breezy, and it offers just the right mix of gentle humor towards its subject. And the haiku themselves are glorious.

"The only thing the
Thief left behind,

Moon on my Windowsill."

GAH. Best.
