Beautiful. Heartbreaking. Forbidden romance. Don't read this until you've read Ask, Tell. Actually, you probably could read this one first. I don't know. It's your call. Read my other reviews about the books in this serious and you may get a feel for how much I adore them. Rebecca Keane is wifey. I'll read everything EJ puts out from now on (I'm making my way through her works). For me, this was so much better than Ask, Tell. I loved being inside Rebecca's mind this time, experiencing all of the events and gaining insight to her feelings. Rebecca's experience with 'the incident' was absolutely heart-wrenching .. more than Sabine's, honestly. I'm so, so glad EJ Noyes gave us this interesting perspective from the other half of our favorite couple. Read this!

Also, so so sorry for how terrible I am at reviews. I almost always write them directly after I finish the book, when I'm a hot mess express. I suck at conveying my feelings

As with the first books, I reveled in my awe for Rebecca's emotional intelligence. I have so much respect for her as a person, a woman, a boss, a lover... Everything. This book further solidified that love for me.

My fascination for Rebecca's thought process did stem from the second book where we got her POV for the first time. I think she is thorough and analytical with every decision, and even when her thoughts escape her or slip away from her "Forgetting Place", she has very good reason to be a little out of line.

I liked the flip on perspective, too. Because in Ask, Tell (Primarily that one because it was all Sabine and not the joint POVs like Ask Me Again), you are left with some loose threads hanging. Like Rebecca just showing up on Sabine's doorstep "unprompted"? What's that about? This book ties up allllll of those loose ends and puts a nice neat little bow on everything.

I was also very very glad to meet Linda. She is a rock for Rebecca and I wish there would have been mention of her in the other books (But, also not... Having her in this last one only was a little treat I didn't know I had a sweet tooth for.) Plus it made Rebecca's situation more dire, and I liked the additional struggle for her to have to settle with the thought of losing her. It made her choose love over everything else and I think that is so important in a platonic and romantic way.

I have great appreciation for how closely Noyes followed the storyline from the Ask, Tell. It was very satisfying to have that all filled in.

Lastly, the star being knocked off for this rating is for the ending. I found it just a little cheesy... And I understand for there needing to be a stopping point right about there because it blended in very nicely with Ask Me Again... But I don't know. I was happy to see more of Rebecca and Sabine in that way but I found it a little cliche.

I might have read Ask, Tell and then went a little crazy with needing Rebecca's point of view, so naturally I read this book as well the next day. I was surprised with how compelling and convincing it was considering it tells the same story, but with some fresh events and characters that really helped paint the complete picture of her relationship with Sabine. What most interested me was how Rebecca was handling the emotional toll of being attracted to a younger subordinate from her perspective of being the commanding officer and the way Noyes explored it in this book didn't let me down at all. I loved how the attraction and relationship between Rebecca and Sabine was written as such a slow burn over several years of knowing each other, and Rebecca's side of the story gives us an even longer timeline than Ask, Tell. This has immediately become one of my favorite adult romances.

I think Rebecca is one of my fav characters in contemporary sapphic fiction. This was a lovely way to get her pov in the first book of this series, and hearing Abby Craden do one of her favorite voices of mine in her repertoire for a WHOLE BOOK!! Was just *chefs kiss* perfection.

It's so good to revisit old friends. I always wished we got to see Rebecca's POV, even if just a snippet of it, but thank fuck! E.J. regaled us with a full novel.

Knowing what was going to happen didn't diminish the experience at all, add to that a bad memory and it was almost like reading a "brand new" story [it is new, but you get the gist]. So it was really hard to put the book down, I've even dreamed that I was still reading the story when I fell asleep in the middle of it at the wee hours of the night.

Rebecca is such an amazing character and getting to see first hand her woes and afflictions related to her growing affection towards Sabine and her career just added to her depth and amazingness. Seeing how she threaded all the events was.. I don't even know how to put it. Then we have Linda and well, suddenly I'm sobbing, life really isn't fair to some.

And Sabine, even from someone else's POV is still a breath of fresh air, delightful. Now Imma put the #2 and #3 on my tbr again, because I'll just miss them if not.

I'll be honest, I've had a crush on Rebecca Keane for years and the fact that I was privy to all of her thoughts, feelings, and emotions has strengthened my crush further. She's classy, brilliant, humble, fierce, empathetic, reflective, and compassionate. Being able to be up close and personal with her as her growing feelings for Sabine conflicted with her morality (and the awful Military rules) was really quite special. This book is raw, powerful, and emotional and it was a truly brilliant ride! Thank you EJ Noyes for sharing Rebecca's story!
