I think this was the most well rounded of the books, it also had the advantage of existing world building.

I feel like I'm so far into this that I might as well finish it but it's just not very good and I can't stand the male narrator anymore. I hate that he just reads the book. There's no performance. The female narrator does a great job I wish the entire book was read by her.
There is also a lot of emphasis on the main characters innocence and it feels so close to virgin fetishization and that's always something that's been icky to me. It's too closely related to daddy/bbg king of kink for my liking.
There's also a lot of infantilizing female characters. I feel like criticism like this is often waved away in historical romances because "it's a product of the time" but when very little else is steeped in proper etiquette etc. (you know, things actually of the times) then it's just there to make women seem kind of dumb and need to have the love interest/interests teach her things about herself and the world. This can work but most often I feel it's nothing but infantalization and that's an ick for me, personally.
It's also a very long book and I feel like there's going to be a convoluted third act breakup that will do nothing but pad out the book and I'd rather start something else that's exciting.

I wish we could’ve seen more of them together as a couple toward the end but overall it was great.

My favorite of the series. I loved all the character development, and teared up at several points. Warren is possibly one of my favorite characters ever written, and one of the most unique heroes I've ever read. Someone so rough in nature but so gentle, vulnerable, and hurt too. I think that made the teach-me trope that much more effective with Madeline and Charles.
My least favorite of the series. Warren is a jerk and had no redeeming qualities.
