This is a very fast read, and I think most Juniors and Seniors will be able to relate to it. Senior year is stressful, and this book really let you feel it while also giving some interesting looks into what it's like to be a Korean American or to be very pressured by your parents. I wasn't a big fan of the ending where they skipped ahead several years and told you how everyone ended up... but I really enjoyed the book overall.

YA YOO - pressure, perfectionism, senior year, violin, clean read
Patty Yoon is the perfect Korean-American daughter - she has a full schedule of AP classes, will study as hard as it takes to get at least 2300 on the SATs, is active in her church youth group, made All State Orchestra for the fourth year in a row, and will almost assuredly be valedictorian. She's well on her way to making her parents proud by getting into HYP - Harvard, Princeton, Yale.
But what does she know about boys, friends, standing up for herself, making choices, or being happy? Not much, but her senior year starts her on a path to discovering each of them. 14+

This book was my life in high school. Maybe a little less pressure to go to HARVARDYALEPRINCETON, and maybe a lot more Asian kids going through the same thing - but essentially, this book was my life. I loved it. It was funny, it was innovative, and it had recipes for Korean food!

Such a fun book! When you finish reading it, YouTube Paula Yoo and watch the 2 minute video where she plays the violin and you’ll be blown away!

Paula Yoo’s Good Enough is a funny, inspiring ode to music and Korean parents. Loosely based on the author’s life, this novel is very realistic about parental pressures and the stress of college applications. My favorite thing about this book is the message that your college major doesn’t have to define you. Patti learns that she can always change careers and she can be multiple things at once.

Good Enough is perfect for anyone looking for a light, funny young adult novel. Bonus points if you love music and Korean food! 2.5 stars. The ending wrapped up well--not too tidy, but not open-ended. Not a fan of the lists. Could relate to the parental pressure and church-centered youth, the need to sneak in order to be one's self.
