WOW! Just, wow. The raw, emotional performances by Joe and CJ set the bar so high for future audiobooks, I don’t know how anything else can really come close.Mind was blown. Panties were melted. Jaws were dropped. Tears were shed.
Disclaimer- Hawke really should be read first for backstory.
This story follows Kid (Kai) after he treks to California to stay with his best friends, Hawke and Cole, for an extended period. Without dreams or ambition, Kid lives day by day floating on his addictive personality, constant;y high on whatever drug he’s ingested to numb his existence. There he meets Cole’s older sister, Han (Johanna), whose existence proves to be Kai’s newest addiction. This story follows their on/off, hot/cold relationship as they struggle through drug addiction, mental health crises, and the plague that is true, soul-changing love.
This is the first audiobook I have listened to at 1.25-1.5x speed to be able to absorb and bask in the emotions that Joe brought to Kid.
Heavy triggers including illicit drug use, knife play, pain play, addiction, depression, off-page suicide, violence, and plenty of on-page sex to rate this a 4/5 on this spice scale.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Like Hawke, I will be listening to this multiple times this year.

This book ripped my heart out, shredded it, then put it back together. If I could give it more then 5 starts I would.

very emotional and very spicy read, kinda dragged a bit through the middle.

I went right from Hawke into this book and was very excited to read about Kid. This was a very emotional read when it came to both his & Johanna’s trauma. The level of spice in this was insane and it was DARKKK, but soooo good. I wish we would’ve learned just a bit more about Kid’s trauma. The middle kinda dragged on for a bit for me personally, but the last 30% really picked up. I was so happy to see more of Hawke and Cole as well, but wanted to know more about Cole finding out about her mom.

Still a very good read overall! Would definitely recommend :)

Kid

First kid is hilarious! I love his personality !!! And you know how funny he is if you read Hawke.

This book tore at my heart! It ached for Kid.

This book had me on a roller coaster of emotions …. I laughed, cried, I was unwell during them spicy scenes, ugh so good

This book - about 95% of it, is written in Kids POV, which I loved. I absolutely loved that! This book was deep, and it touches on some heavy subjects

Kid falls hard for Han…. Literally describing her as the female version of himself and yes I would agree with that … their story is one I don’t think I’ve read something like it before… their banter and their connection is literally on another dimension. Individually they have their our traumas they have to deal with and they deal with it in the same way and seeing them go through their issues and find their way back to each other, really had me rooting for them. He falls first and she fights him … not wanting to open up and he never backed down. I love how he never wanted to changed & gave her space to slowly open herself to him and to her feelings and ultimately seeing them get to that place at the end was everything…

This is a dark contemporary romance and although it could be read as a standalone I think you should read Hawke first, you meet him there first and they reference Hawke and Cole (which I liked hearing about them and how they are doing) These were two different love stories and equally as beautiful

Jescie writes and I swear I feel connected to her characters in a different way…. She writes and it’s like she writes things I’ve felt - honestly she’s amazing
