When eleven year old Maggie Malone is forced to leave her school and her best friend after her father loses his job, she is positive that this will be the absolute worst year of her life so far. She knows NOBODY at her new school, and her first day starts off totally wrong when she encounters the meanest girl in school for the first time. Maggie is convinced that things can't get much worse from here, for sure!

But when Maggie's kooky aunt gives her an old pair of magical boots, she is given the opportunity to switch lives with anyone her heart desires for twenty four hours of fun and excitement! So, who better to choose than Becca Starr, the most famous tween pop sensation on earth -- and someone who could never be bothered by the sorts of problems that plague Maggie in the worst year of her life so far!

So, when Maggie wakes up to a life of adoring fans, fabulous outfits, and more popularity than one girl could ever imagine, she is surprised to find out that even her favorite celebrity on earth still has a pretty difficult life -- full of new and unexpected struggles. Can Maggie make it through twenty four hours of insanity before returning to her old life of redundancy? And, might she even learn a lesson along the way to make her troublesome new school feel a bit more friendly?

MAGGIE MALONE AND THE MOSTLY MAGICAL BOOTS is an adorable little story that will likely appeal most to younger readers around the same age of the main character -- although I could see this one as a fun bed time story for girls of an even younger age, especially those who already love fairy tales and magical adventures. It is definitely a quick read, and the story provides useless lessons to young minds, like the importance of self-confidence and of finding the silver lining on an otherwise cloudy day.

The story easily lends itself to an interesting series for young readers, although I haven't read whether or not the title is a stand-alone or not. I appreciated receive an advanced reader's copy for the purposes of providing an honest review, and I wouldn't hesitate to check out other titles by the same author in the future.

My family moved often when I was younger, so I became good at being "the new kid" at school. The worst time was when I had to start at a different school in the middle of the year. Everyone had already made friends and claimed their favorite seats in class and at lunch. I had a nervous stomach ache for the first few weeks until I made some friends and learned the way things worked at the new school.

Because of my experiences, I understand what Maggie Malone is going through as she has to leave the private school she has always attended and transfer to a public school after sixth grade has already begun. She has to leave her BFF Stella and attend "Stinkerton" (the local nickname for Pinkerton Middle School). Her very first day is one disaster after another - she's late for her first class, her lunch gets stepped on, she gets knocked out by a falling history book... It's not a promising start. When she finally makes it home, her aunt has sent her a birthday gift, a pair of boots. As the title shows, they are Mostly Magical Boots and Maggie has an incredible adventure when she tries them on.

I don't want to spoil the surprise and tell you about her adventure, but it will have you smiling and laughing as you follow along. There are plenty of other stories that could be told about Maggie and the MMBs, so try this one and then keep an eye out for more books about Miss Malone and her footwear.

I was provided with an advance copy by the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
