Well and Truly Pucked is the fourth book in the My Hockey Romance series from Lauren Blakely. While all the books in the series feature polyamorous relationships between three main characters (M/F/M), this new one is the first to have four main characters (M/F/M/M). I'll be honest: I'm not a huge fan of the why choose trope, also known as reverse harem, i.e. one female main character, multiple male main characters. It takes a great deal to convince me that what the FMC feels for one MMC is one the same footing or equal in intensity as for any other MMCs. But Blakely's stories in this series have always turned out to be entertaining, with a high amount of heat and heart, some humor, and maybe even some angst. Basically, resistance tends to be futile regardless of trope choice.
It all starts with Briar Delaney and her dog, Donut, getting kicked out of the home she shared with her ex-boyfriend and then to be informed that her cat, Frances Furbottom, would stay because his new girlfriend shared a "bond" with the cat. Rhys Corbin, Hollis Bouchard, and Gavin Worthy soon become an increasingly constant presence in her new life. The three hockey players are already friends, but it was great to see them take her into their protective circle and forge a true friendship with Briar. They may have wanted to show her what it was like to have a great boyfriend, but she got exactly that times three. My one quibble would be that I wanted more. No, not more boyfriends for Briar, but more about the three she had. Other than that, Well and Truly Pucked was a wonderful addition to the My Hockey Romance series, and it easily earns itself four stars.
