As every other Wodehouse novel, this one has jokes aplenty. The reader will be left laughing at the quirkiness of all the characters and their shenanigans. Though the plot and the story line hold good, it is the humor that is the hero of the whole novel. There is humor in the bizarre actions of the characters and the classic British wit is also captured beautifully.

Wodehouse never fails in capturing the essence of Aunts who are fearsome yet funny and Aunt Hermione in this book totally delivers. Look at this little beauty:

Aunt Hermione: "Is he wanted by the police?"

Galahad Threepwood: "No, he is not wanted by the police."

Aunt H.: "How I sympathize with the police, I know just how they feel."

I remember having to put the book down to go like this:

This is a book that anyone who enjoys a good laugh should read. It is a feel good novel and the reader shouldn't overthink it. Or, as Stephen Fry says:

"You don't analyse such sunlit perfection, you just bask in its warmth and splendour."

i had not read/heard this one before, although i have greatly enjoyed other Blandings stories, because i have just refused to listen to anything not read by Jonathan Cecil. XD This one was free and it sounded interesting, and i gave it a shot, and i’m glad. Jeremy Sinden doesn’t do voices as thoroughly, and he breathes a lot, but he does incorporate some accents and has an overall more polished presentation, and i was never once hit with the impulse to just stop listening, which has definitely happened with all previous non-Cecil readers, haha. i really missed Cecil’s Clarence. Sinden’s is far more cogent. But i loved Sinden’s Uncle Gally—and i just planned loved Uncle Gally. XD The Honorable Galahad! He seems *exactly* like a 50-year-old younger son. He is completely unpredictable while also coming through in a pinch.

i also liked that the ending did not allow him to successfully wrangle his amoral scheme, even while resolving everything handily, haha. i hope my godchildren can rely on me as thoroughly as his godson and niece can rely on him (although i hope to be more reliable generally. His godson should probably not have relied upon him, haha).

Also, oh my gosh, The Face! XD XD XD

ps. i may look up some more Sindens. :-)

Wodehouse has seven go-to plots:
1) Someone needs to be manipulated into marriage
2) Someone needs to be manipulated out of marriage
3) Lovers want to get married, but parent/guardian needs convincing
4) Something valuable needs to be stolen
5) Something valuable has been lost/stolen and needs to be retrieved
6) A bully is taking advantage of someone
7) Someone needs money from a wealthy friend/family member

Full Moon features 1, 3, and 7 with a sliver of 5 at the very end. On one hand, the mix and match nature of the plot made it feel fresher than some of the books that stick to one. On the other hand, it's a lot of characters and none of them really make the reader root for them.

I did appreciate that, in the end, Freddie
stood up for himself and demanded the necklace back. Bertie would have never!

Audiobook narrator Jeremy Sinden's performance is rather bland. While he does a fine job of reading the text, he does a terrible job of bringing the characters to life, using little inflection or odd inflection during the dialog. Galahad should be larger than life, and that status is never even attempted by Sinden. I increased the speed to 1.1x, which helped slightly, but I think I'd have enjoyed the story a great deal more with a narrator who embraced the caricatures that are Wodehousian characters instead of making them dull, duller, and dullest.

I love the Jeeves stories, but Blandings Castle has grown on me. I think Full Moon tips the scales for me in favor of Blandings. All of Wodehouse's work is absurd, but there's more self-awareness in this series. Full Moon embraces the peculiarities of the family perfectly. Freddie growth and Gally's intelligence are a treat. I missed Connie, though. I feel like Blandings isn't the same without her exasperation.
