I liked this one, although it took a bit for me to get into. It also took me a while to finish because this was my "only read at school" book. As the story came together and we started to understand the situation, I think that it became very interesting. Although it's crazy that kids are doing something that has killed adults. It is definitely set up to make some good sequels in this world. I'm happy to have read it and recommend it to my students now because it is in my classroom library.

Good for kids who like R.L. Stine type books and don't care about how well they're written. Incredibly formulaic.

Book #71 Read in 2016
Curse of the Boggin by D.J. MacHale

This is the first book in a young adult paranormal series. Marcus finds out mysterious things about his past and about his deceased birth parents. Marcus is becoming an agent of the Library--a place where ghosts and spirits write stories. The boggin, an evil thing, wants the key to the library and tries to intimidate Marcus into giving the key to her. This would be a good read for middle school and high school readers who enjoy the show "The Librarians". I would future books in this series. I received a copy of this book from Amazon Vine in exchange for a honest review.

It was fine.  I liked the concept of the Library, however I was not really interested in the characters. I will not read the sequels

D.J. MacHale has just penned a great horror story for the tween set. I really liked the way he set the tone for the novel in the introduction. The reader now knows that there will be more books in the series(yeah!) and that each book is it's own entity. You don't have to read them in order! What I loved about this book is the serious creepy factor. D.J. perfectly blends horror with believable scenarios. I finished this book in 2 days. It's a great read for tweens who like something scary but good.

I'm looking forward to the next one.

I've been a fan of DJ's ever since I fell into the wonderful world of Pendragon when I was a sophomore in high school. I'm now 29 years old and STILL love his middle grade books. ha ha. Curse of the Boggin, SYLO, Morpheus Road, you name it, DJ slays it. Love his characters and his plot, always something new and surprising and such a joy to read!! I just wish the book was longer because I plowed through it in 2 days!!
