My first fantasy and probably my only. I read it to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone & picked this specifically because I loved Addie LaRue so much. I struggled to get into it… like 60% of the book struggled but once I was hooked it was really good! Even though this is listed as a standalone, I think I should have read the shades of magic series beforehand to better understand things and maybe I would have been able to get into it earlier. I loved the characters, especially Tes and Lila & the imagery was gorgeous 🥰 long story short, fantasy isn’t really my thing (at all) and still won’t be but this did pleasantly surprise me at least a little bit
