It’s a funny, quick read that helped me get out of my reading slump.
Freida McFadden’s The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie is a fun diversion from the overly dramatic and formulaic elements of thrillers. McFadden obviously had a great time experimenting with the genre’s cliches, and the joy radiates from each page. Every twist is so spot-on that I found myself eagerly awaiting the next absurd development, just to be amused when I made the correct prediction. In addition to making fun of thriller novels, this novella parodies Lifetime films, mocking its propensity for excessive drama and bizarre narrative twists.
The Widow’s Husband’s Secret Lie, my first satirical novella, was refreshing and made me wish McFadden would do more satire. Despite being well-known for thrillers, she excels in this one, displaying a talent for humorous timing and a lighthearted approach to genre norms. The outcome is a fantastic, humorous read that is ideal for everyone who enjoys thrillers – or laughs at them – because it is not serious in the greatest manner.

This was short and silly, but it is advertised as such so can’t be mad at it
Well. I read that.
Just glad Freida acknowledged she writes women to be so dumb!
Just was a wild ride
