The Tao of Pooh was cute. . By The Te of Piglet, however, the novelty had worn off and the author seemed much more cynical and rote. Disappointing.

This book has been very enlightening to read. It is so often that Western societies do not value taking the time to see things as they are. We are on our phones, worrying about a plethora of different things. This book slows that down and teaches you the very basics of how to get unstuck from that situation. It gives you the tools but you have to choose to use them.

It was that Eeyore chapter for me which so incredibly escalates into an anti-feminist rant that took off the extra star I thought the first book had deserved. Everything goes even more downhill from there. It's like as you close the back cover, the book self-destructs in front of your eyes. Since it was a gift, I'll carry out the proper burial rites anyways i.e. gently place in a box alongside other esteemed objects in the cellar.

I've been keeping an eye on this book for a while, but it was always not quite high on my to-read list. Nevertheless, here in Edinburgh, I finally managed to get a copy when I spotted it at the used-book store.

I think it would to justice to comment separately on the two books that are made in one. I really liked the first half of the book, but the other, not so much. The Tao of Pooh really was a good read. It explained different principles of Taoism in an easy, consumable way through excerpts from Pooh's adventures. There were something meaningful in the stories told... regarding how to be yourself in life and find the Way. For the other half, The Te of Piglet, I am not sure how much there was to reap from it. It seemed to move away from the Good Life described in the first half, and go into criticizing the Western society through Eastern principles.. which I do not always enjoy reading about. While The Tao of Pooh felt like a serious, respectable analysis of Taoism through a relevant Western text, The Te of Piglet felt like yet another ignorant Western fetishism with the East.

Nevertheless, I learned much from the book. Much peace... and some desire and contentment that coexist.

This book made me re-watch The Piglet's Big Movie, a Pooh bear animation that I loved very much as a child. I still enjoyed it. But it was also odd to realize how little I have changed since then. I still wish I could be of help to others, but am so caught up with the idea that I am small and worthless that I do not actively try to change anything. Perhaps I am not so desperate, after all.

I really read this a long time ago. I think it was the first seed I planted concerning Taoism and mindfulness

I really enjoyed the Tao of Pooh; not so much the Te of Piglet. That one got a little too icky for me with the politics and all.
