Audiobooks ultimately aren't for me, and this didn't have enough for me to get into them. I am disappointed because I bought this title specifically, as I consume everything Dervla Mctiernan creates ferociously - this just gave me the feeling it wasn't good enough to be published in print so it was offered as an audio exclusive to appease Amazon.

Read by Ben Chappell and Harriet Gordon-Anderson, I especially liked the male narrator.

I was keen to read this as I loved the Murder Rule.

Flynn was a teenager when her parents were killed in an accident, her sister Kaiya struggled, but seems to turn a corner with the help of a grief counsellor. Kaiya leads a group out into the bush but they fail to return during a bush fire.
Noah is approached by Flynn who wants help finding out what actually happened to her sister.

This book comes with some trigger warnings.

The story is told from both Noah and Flynn’s POV with quite a lot of it with their back stories before they became connected which I found interesting. It’s a very character driven story with the mystery taking a back seat as it’s not a complicated plot line.

I found it an entertaining, and enjoyable listen.

The beginning of the book was awesome; a lot of character and story development. Then suddenly it was like the author just wanted to be finished…the second half of the book felt underdeveloped, disjointed, and like the ends were tied up with random answers just to make the plot come together. It made the overall book even more disappointing, because I wanted more of the first half!

The ending felt rushed and a bit disjointed. It could have been fleshed out more. The beginning of the book was quite good, I listened to the entire thing in one sitting, just the ending lets it down a bit.
