4.5 stars. like many have said, this book, along with many others, should absolutely be required reading in school.

A dystopia written in 1993 and set between 2024-2027. There are a lot of parallels between Lauren's USA and ours (fires, gated communities, homelessness, mass unemployment, racism, police corruption, government collapse) although as a pre-9/11 and pre-mass internet story, it obviously diverts from our reality in many ways. But unlike a lot of other Sci-Fi's set in specific time periods, I think Parable of the Sower has aged really well as a sort of companion piece to our reality.

Very interesting and fast to read. Definitely saw lots of parallels between what happened in the book and what is currently happening in the USA.

I love this book, and it's a bit didactic. It's hard to read right now as it's a bit on the nose for the political moment. Not a criticism of the book but of our political reality. This should be required reading.
