This collection of speeches is an awesome slice of history and view into Malcolm X's ideology - in other words, my positive review does not mean I agree with him.
Malcolm X was so intelligent and an amazing writer - so it's wild to see in these speeches some really compelling political thought right alongside some batshit NOI cult nonsense. I'm also curious what a non-NOI Muslim would think of Malcolm X's claims about Islam. Admittedly I'm not Muslim myself, but some of his assertions seem really dubious. He seems to elevate Elijah Mohammed above the actual prophet Mohammed and I'm pretty sure that's not allowed?
But like I said, his criticisms of both the US government and the civil rights movement, and his use of Biblical stories, are all really fascinating.
