Got any chapstick?

Omg, I’m dying here! This book was fantastic. Ore times than I could count, I wanted to reach in and hug Lucky while stretching a hand out to snack Zach upside the heads before taking him into my arms.

Above and Beyond is the fourth book in the Twist of Fate series by one of my favorite writing duos, Sloane Kennedy and Lucy Lennox. I'm a huge fan of both authors and I read everything they write (and I'm working on their backlists too) and they always give me all the feels. Ya'll, this is Lucky's story! Lucky and Zach (Jake's brother)! We've been waiting a long time for the kid we fell in love with to grow up and find his happy. He's twenty years old now, almost done with college and is pursing a high risk alpine search and rescue certification that no one knows about. When his dads send Zach to check on him, he's not happy. Especially since he declared his love for the old man two years ago and got his heart broken. Zach never forgot that night with Lucky. He couldn't go there with an eighteen year old kid, but now Lucky is older and he's man. A gorgeous, funny, smart, sexy man. Who he can't have. When Lucky ends up in the class he's teaching, Zach doesn't think he'll be able to keep him safe. He'll worry too much about him and this is a dangerous job. But Lucky is a star student and calm under pressure. When things go sideways and Zach and Lucky are forced together, things start to change. They are both consenting adults, it's temporary and then they just walk away. Famous last words. Zach doesn't think he deserves Lucky's heart, but Lucky isn't going to let him go without a fight. Will Zach fight back or walk away like he always does? This story was worth the wait! I loved Lucky then and I love him now. Zach is broken and haunted, but caring and a better man than he thinks he is. He's older and scarred, inside and out and doesn't think he deserves love at all. He ran away from his family and Lucky but now he has to face his life and his fears. Lucky had a hard start to his life, but Xander and Bennett saves him and he loves them so much for it. But now is his time to live his life. Do what makes him happy. This story isn't hearts and flowers, it's full of emotion, suspense and sadness. But Lucy and Sloane always give us some humor to make us smile while we're crying!

This book started off a bit slow for me. There was a lot of exposition in the first couple chapters. Once we got past that, the book progressed well enough. I liked Lucky and Zach and how they supported each other.

A big gripe for me, though is that
Spoilersomeone stalking Lucky was dealt with so suddenly it might as well not have been a plot point. It didn't actually do anything progression wise and then it was taken care of in less than a page in the middle of the book. It wasn't even the climax!
. If that was managed better, it would have rocked it up another star.

After the joy and drama that was Body and Soul, I found it incredibly hard to enjoy this one. I loved Lucky throughout the entire series, so I naturally hated how he was treated in this one and repeatedly. The constant rejection was not once and redeemed but over and over, I could understand Zach's hesitation but his casual cruelty was painful - even when he knew he was being cruel and hated himself for it. I did love the aspect of Search and Rescue that allowed Lucky to grow into himself and his dreams - truly step away from the teen he was in the earlier books.
