An interesting read about the lives of some of history's 'fairy tellers'. This book mainly focuses on seven authors; Giambattista Basile, Hanna Dyab, Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve, Dortchen Wild, Ivan Khudiakov, Somadeva and, arguably the most famous, Hans Christian Anderson. These authors are only a handful of history's children's and folklore authors, which Jubber makes clear. Jubber mentions many other authors throughout the book too, however I really enjoyed who he chose to spotlight.
The seven authors in this book were mainly based in Europe and Asia during the 1800s, and are responsible for writing some of the most famous stories in the world that have truly lasted the test of time. These stories include One Thousand and One Nights, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella. The list goes on and on and it was so interesting to read about the men and women that, for the most part, who's names have been forgotten. Any lover of children's stories or folk tales will enjoy this book with its insight into the lives of authors who have had such a significant impact in the literary world.

Definitely interesting stories, I love learning about the people behind stories that made me an avid reader. The book was a bit too on the long side and became confusing a time or two, but learning the real stories makes me love the childhood stories all the more.
